Vocabulary work

In this part of the lesson, you’re going to learn how to use the mind map which goes with this lesson (as well as all the other mind maps provided in this course) to study, learn, practise and revise the new words and phrases which are related to the topic of this TED talk.

Use the mind map below to learn new vocabulary. Follow the guidelines provided in the video.

Practise answering the questions below. Use some of the new words and phrases in your answers.

  • Think of a few good and bad conversations you’ve had. What was good/bad about them?
  • What are the main things you should do to have a good conversation? What should you not do? Why?

Here are a few questions which we are going to discuss together at the end of the week. Think of the words and phrases you could use in your answers to these questions.

  1. Did you find the speaker’s tips useful? Do you think they can really help you to have better conversations? Why (not)?
  2. Which of the 10 rules is the most important? Why?
  3. Which of the tips is (are) the easiest for you to follow? Why?
  4. Which of them is the most difficult to follow? Why?
  5. Do you think you are generally good at communicating with people? Why do you think so?
